Weekend Teaser: Bees last weekend of the season doesn't go to plan

Image
Bees last weekend of the season doesn't go to plan Bees had a rare Friday evening fixture in Romford which didn't exactly go to plan with transportation or the result. The @beesIHCfans decided to give the train a go as the Elizabeth line goes straight from Slough to Romford. It was easy, the train took 1hr 20 mins and we had a 5 minute walk to the rink. It turned out to be a great move as it took many fans over 3 hours on the M25. Sadly, this would not be the only part of the evening to not go to plan for some with Bees losing 8-2. They just couldn't break through Raiders defence who showed why they deserved their playoff slot. Bees goals came from Dan Rose and Brendan Walkom on the night. Sunday saw the Wildcats visit Slough for James Galazzi's last game as a Bee before retirement. Bees were on top for the first period taking a 3-2 lead into the break courtesy of goals from Brendan Walkom, Ryan Webb and Josh Smith. Bees started the second period strong but Wildcats man...

Weekend Teaser: Bees look to go out on a high

Image
Bees look to go out on a high in the last weekend of the season Bees show their true colours in three point weekend First up last weekend Bees were on the road in Milton Keynes still elated after their win against the Lightning the previous weekend. Bees started off where they finished in the previous game with Adam Rosbottom scoring just 1.08 into the game. MKL tied the game just over two minutes later with what was to be the last goal of the first period. The second period was to produce another goal for each team, Bees go ahead goal was short handed and scored by Will Stead timed at 36.43 but MKL were to draw level again to set up a thrilling third period. The third period was also to produce a goal for each team, Bees goal coming courtesy of Brendan Walkom at 43.27. MKL scored the equaliser with 42 seconds left of the period after pulling their goalie. Overtime lasted just over a minute when MKL found the back of the net and walked away with the extra point. Sunday saw the Br...

Weekend Teaser: Bees are out of the playoffs but still mean business

Image
Bees are out of the playoffs but still mean business Bees played brilliantly for 5 periods last weekend Bees were on the road on Saturday visiting the Steeldogs in Sheffield. Bees were the better team for the first two periods, period 1 ended 2-1 in Bees favour with Bees goals coming from Dom and JJ. Steeldogs clawed their way back into the game but were still struggling with the Bees game plan, the second period finishing with the teams tying 3-3 and Bees goal scored by Dom was honestly one of the best shots you will see. Shortly into the third period Juha was on target to put the Bees 4-3 ahead but then Steeldogs began an onslaught scoring 6 unanswered goals leaving the final score at 9-4 which did not reflect the flow of the game or the Bees performance. Sunday night Bees welcomed the MK Lightning to Slough, a dominant team and deserving of their second place in the league. Matt Smital was in the net against his former team and Bees, without any of their two way deal players a...

Weekend Teaser: Bees deserved more than one point from last weekend but it wasn't to be

Image
Bees deserved more than one point from last weekend but it wasn't to be  100% commitment and performance from the Bees   Bees travelled to Basingstoke for what was to turn out to be a Saturday night thriller. Games against the Bison are always exciting, passionate and nail-bitingly close and this game was no different. At the end of regulation the teams were tied 4-4, Bees goals coming from Will, Harry and Brendan with two, his second goal was incredible. Overtime could not split the teams so a shootout, which wasn't without controversy, resulted in Bison gaining the extra point.  Sunday saw the Knights visit Slough and they came out all guns firing. By 5.06 in the first the Knights were 3-0 up but you have to hand it to the Bees they raised their game and started to fight their way back. Dom was on target at 7.49 and this was to be the last goal scored until Will Stead scored a powerplay goal timed at 44.16 in the third. Bees had piled on the pressure in the ...

Weekend Teaser: Get your thermals on as Bees visit the Bison before a home visit from the Knights

Image
Get your thermals on as Bees visit the Bison before a home visit from the Knights  Bees don't want the season to end   When the points from every game really matter you don't want to be visiting the league leaders in their castle but the Bees played incredibly well considering injury had side lined Alan Lack and Adam Rosbottom and the players on two-way deals were unavailable to ice too. Leeds came away with a 6-4 win but Bees gave them a run for their money as the last goal was an empty netter. Bees scorers on the night were Dan Rose, Josh Smith and Brendan Walkom with a brace. Next up for the Bees were the Steeldogs, sitting 4th in the league they were not going to be a pushover. Bees were the stronger team on the night. With a 3-1 lead at the end of the first period, Bees looked comfortable with two goals from Dom Gabaj and one for James Galazzi. Harvey Stead was to increase the Bees lead in the second with what was to be the game winning goal. The Steeldogs edged the ...

A weekend with the Knights and the Steeldogs

Image
A weekend with the Knights and the Steeldogs Bees fall to much improved Seahawks   I think it is fair to say that reflecting on both the Seahawks and Bees 22/23 seasons they have been blighted with injury, suspension and a huge dose of bad luck and for one reason or another both teams couldn't catch a break. The two teams met for a double header weekend, with Hull making the long journey to Slough on Saturday before both teams headed back to Hull for the return leg. Seahawks were to prove too strong for the Bees over the two games with a 6-3 win in Slough and a 6-4 win in Hull. Seahawk's Emil Svec was on fire with a 4+4 weekend and he was a threat every time he crossed the blue line. Some notable performances from the Bees too with Stuart Mogg being the stand out player for me.   Player of the Weekend Results Congratulations to Stuart Mogg  who walked away with the player of the weekend vote with a whopping 64% of the vote.  You can view all our player of...

Weekend Teaser: Last life for playoff hopes

Image
Last life for playoff hopes Bees first shut out of the season and pipped to the post in Swindon  A visit to Swindon on Saturday night saw the Bees in a tight encounter with the Wildcats. Period one ended 1-1, Dan Rose scoring the first goal of the game assisted by Luke Jackson and  Adam Rosbottom who has returned to the Bees line up after leave for his role in the RAF. Wildcats were to edge 2-1 in front by the end of the second and went a goal further ahead in the third on the powerplay. Bees brought themselves back to one goal behind with a brilliant goal scored by Dom Gabaj assisted by Will Stead  but were unable to find the game tying goal with the final score of 3-2 ending the game in favour of Swindon. Gossy stood firm in the net all evening, preventing many good goal scoring opportunities for the Wildcats.   Sunday saw the Bristol Pitbulls visit Slough. Both teams are evenly matched with 3 of their last 4 meetings going into overtime, tonight was t...

Weekend Teaser: A point in Bristol and Phantoms edge the Bees

Image
A point in Bristol and Phantoms edge the Bees One point out of four, but it could of been more Bees earned a point in Bristol on Saturday night as they took the Pitbulls to overtime after the teams tied at 5-5 at the end of the third. Bees goals were courtesy of Will Stead (2), Dominik Gabaj, Juha Lindgren and Josh Smith. Sadly for the Bees, Pitbulls were to score the vital overtime goal and earn themselves that all important second point. Sunday saw Phantoms visit Slough and take away the two points, the scoreline 3-2 in Phantoms favour. Sadly Bees goals from Jack Goodchild and Juha Lindgren were not to be enough. Player of the Weekend Results This week's player of the weekend was  Harvey Stead  with 42% of the vote, Jack Goodchild gave close competition coming second with 37%. Many congratulations to Harvey. Who will be up for the vote this weekend? You can view all our player of the weekend winners from the last 2 seasons here:  Bees IHC Fans Database Coming up ...

Weekend Teaser: Must win game in Bristol followed by a visit from the Phantoms

Image
Must win game in Bristol followed by a visit from the Phantoms Mixed fortunes last weekend Raiders visited the Slough Ice Arena on Saturday night and the two teams provided us with an exciting contest. Raiders are a stronger opposition compared to last season so this was never going to be an easy game. Having said that, Bees were always in control and had a 2-0 lead by the end of the first with goals scored by Ryan Webb and Will Stead. Bees were to increase their lead in the second and we knew it wouldn't be long before Brendan Walkom had the puck in the net. Raiders were able to score their first of the night before the end of the period, a tied period and a scoreline of 3-1 going into the third. The final period saw a huge effort from Raiders to reduce the deficit and, despite some great saves from Matt Smital, Raiders scored their second goal of the evening with 5.07 remaining. The inevitable Raiders timeout followed with less than 2 minutes remaining and as expected Eth...

Weekend Teaser: Wildcats too good and Bison edge 15 goal thriller

Image
Wildcats too good and Bison edge 15 goal thriller A tough weekend, Bees score 10 goals with no points to show for it Bees ventured down the M4 to Swindon on Saturday evening with the hope of coming away with two points. The Bees have a good record against the Wildcats this season and on their last visit to the Link Centre, although short benched, Bees came away with the win. Sadly all hopes of a repeat result were dashed as the Wildcats already had five goals before Bees were able to find the back of the net. Bees best period was the third, having come back from the second period break 6-1 down, Bees turned up the pace and found themselves within 3 goals by 47.26, Luke Jackson and Brendan Walkom adding to James Galazzi's second period goal. Wildcats did enough to contain the Bees for the last ten minutes and secure the 2 points with the final score 6-3. Stuart Mogg was man of the match for the Bees, his assist on the Bees first goal of the night was superb. Sunday night saw...

Weekend Teaser: Robbed by the Tigers and Phantoms good form continues

Image
Robbed by the Tigers and Phantoms good form continues One point out of four but should have been more The Tigers came to tea on Saturday evening and given their poor form of late we had hopes that the points were Bees for the taking. Tigers new import, Rory Hermann, was debuting for the team and Bees saw the eagerly awaited return of Josh Martin from injury, James Galazzi returned from suspension but sadly Alan Lack was absent from the line up. Although Tigers were the first to score the Bees found themselves 2-1 up at the end of the first period courtesy of a brace from Brendan Walkom. Tigers brought the game back to 2-2 half way through the second period before an altercation at the Tigers net between Josh Martin and Brad Day (Tigers n/m) and a melee of other Tigers saw Bees given a 5 on 3 opportunity and who should net for the Bees?, Brendan Walkom scoring his hat trick goal.   Period 3 saw the Tigers push for the equaliser and a Tigers timeout called at 57.54 saw Br...

Weekend Teaser: Bees pick up points in 3 of last 4 games

Image
Bees pick up points in 3 of last 4 games Two out of four points for rejuvenated Bees Bees welcomed Wildcats to Slough for a rare Friday evening fixture. Apparently the Wildcats are not a fan of Friday night games, as they have very little success on this day of the week and fortunately for the Bees this fixture was to be no different for Aaron Nell and co. Bees were to come out all guns firing and were 3-0 up at the end of the first period courtesy of Brendan Walkom, Dominik Gabaj and Juha Lindgren. Bees were to add another goal in the second period, Harvey Stead with a cracking goal allowing the Bees a 4 goal cushion at the end of the period. The first half of the third period saw Bees take a couple of minor penalties which they killed but then Dom was to head to the box for a cross check timed at 52.18 and finally the Wildcats were able to put something on the score sheet. Colby Tower found the net but it took a lot of discussion by the officials and input from the goal j...

Weekend Teaser: Probably the best weekend so far this season

Image
Probably the best weekend so far this season Back to two imports, having our coach on the bench and a three point weekend We had all been counting the games until Dominik Gabaj could return to the Bees lineup following his 10 game suspension and in a way it was fitting that his first game back was an away fixture in Basingstoke which was the same rink he played his first ever game for the Bees. On his debut for the Bees he was impressive and the same could be said of this game too. Bees were to go into the period 1 break with a 1-0 lead courtesy of Lewis English . After the break, Bison were to draw the game level before Jack Goodchild gave the Bees the lead again on his debut, This period saw the most blatant too many men on the ice not get called against the Bison, it was obvious to everyone other than the officials and Bison couldn't believe their luck. The period ended 2-1 to the Bees. Period 3 was a tight affair with Bison throwing everything they could at the Bees net. Bees w...

Weekend Teaser: Jack Goodchild is a Bee

Image
Jack Goodchild is a Bee Phantoms too strong for Bees Phantoms edged out the Bees 4-2  in our first game of 2023. A goalless first period saw both teams awarded 2 powerplay opportunities each. It's fair to say that many of the Bees fans believed the 2 minute minor check to the head penalty awarded to Phantoms seemed lenient especially as JJ Pitchley was down on the ice for several minutes but that's hockey. Bees would be the first to score on the night, an even handed goal scored by JJ timed at 22.34.It didn't take Phantoms too long to equalise and then take the lead. Gossy made some outstanding saves to keep the Bees in the game and at the end of the second Bees were trailing by the one goal. Phantoms had the best scoring opportunities in the third and stretched their lead to 4-1 but Bees hadn't given up and a great goal by Juha brought the Bees back to within 2 goals. The Bees pressured Phantoms into an interference call at 58.52 which meant only one thing a timeout ...

Weekend Teaser: Bees start 2023 with a visit from the Phantoms

Image
Bees start 2023 with a visit from the Phantoms Raiders take the four points over the Christmas break double header Raiders edged the Bees home fixture by 3 goals to 2 and by a scoreline of 4 goals to 1 in their rink. Juha Lindgren was absent for the Bees and with both Dom Gabaj and James Galazzi still serving bans this was always going to be a hard couple of games. Raiders seem rejuvenated from their poor season last year, Alex Roberts has also made a huge difference to their scoring threat too. Our goal scorers were Seb Mohr, Ryan Webb and JJ Pitchley. Seb scoring his first Bees goal and looks more than capable of holding his own in our league. Ryan Webb has found some excellent form when the team needed it the most and JJ Pitchley is showing signs that he is returning to the great player that we know he is. All the players really worked hard and would have been disappointed to not earn any points over the two games, especially the home fixture where they deserved more. Player of...

Weekend Teaser: M25 Derby Double

Image
M25 Derby Double 'Twas the weekend before Christmas  Saturday night saw Bees make the road trip to Leeds. With just 11 skaters and 2 minders, we don't like to make life easy but although coming away with a 8 - 6 loss you can't say the lads didn't give it everything they had. Scoring for the Bees were Brendan Walkom and Ryan Webb with two goals each, a cracking goal from JJ PItchley (definitely watch the Leeds highlights for that) and Alan Lack was also on target not only on the goal but on Joshua Hodgkinson too! Gospel was in the net for Knights and he is a hard goalie to beat, in fact this season he has only conceded more goals in one other fixture. He is the second best goalie in the league at the time of writing with a save percentage of .915, the Bees can take a lot away from the evening if not the two points.  Sunday saw the Milton Keynes Lightning visit Slough. Again the Bees put up a great performance considering their low numbers and the opposition. The fi...
