Weekend Teaser: Wildcats too good and Bison edge 15 goal thriller
Wildcats too good and Bison edge 15 goal thriller
A tough weekend, Bees score 10 goals with no points to show for it
Bees ventured down the M4 to Swindon on Saturday evening with the hope of coming away with two points. The Bees have a good record against the Wildcats this season and on their last visit to the Link Centre, although short benched, Bees came away with the win. Sadly all hopes of a repeat result were dashed as the Wildcats already had five goals before Bees were able to find the back of the net. Bees best period was the third, having come back from the second period break 6-1 down, Bees turned up the pace and found themselves within 3 goals by 47.26, Luke Jackson and Brendan Walkom adding to James Galazzi's second period goal. Wildcats did enough to contain the Bees for the last ten minutes and secure the 2 points with the final score 6-3. Stuart Mogg was man of the match for the Bees, his assist on the Bees first goal of the night was superb.
Sunday night saw the Bison visit the Slough Ice Arena. Of all the opponents in the league, Bison are the team that provide the most exciting opposition and the most tense games. This contest was to be a goal fest with 15 goals shared between the teams. We had everything - even-handed goals, shorthanded goals, powerplay goals, penalties and a brawl and that was all in the first period! This game was never in the bag for either team with both teams holding the lead at times but with overtime looming and just 47 seconds from the end of regulation Bison found the game winning goal and snatched at least a point from the disappointed Bees. In hindsight there were lots of little mistakes from both teams but the game winning goal came from a chance which should have been nipped in the bud. Final score 7-8 and Bison can't believe their last minute luck. No doubt about Bees man of the match, Brendan Walkom scored four goals on the night to make his weekend tally 5+2. Dom needs to be signing him for next season now!
Player of the Weekend Results
Not surprisingly your player of the weekend was Brendan Walkom who with 67% of the vote, JJ Pitchley coming second with 20%. Many congratulations to Brendan. Who will be up for the vote this weekend?

Coming up - the Elizabeth line derby ahead of a road trip to Telford
Bees host the Raiders on Saturday 4th Feb, 6.30 face off. Raiders are comfortably sitting 6th in the league and seem to have already done enough to secure a place in the playoffs. Raiders players to watch out for are Matthieu Gomercic, Jake Sylvester, Aaron Connelly and Alex Roberts. Both netminders, Ethan James and Brad Windebank, have the same save percentages with only .001 splitting them so either should provide a similar level of tending. On average they concede 4 goals a game, Bees know they can score more than this, they just need to keep the Raiders offence at bay.
Sunday sees the Bees visit Telford. Tigers will admit their season so far hasn't lived up to their expectations with a current league position of 8th. A bit like Bees, injuries have made a huge impact on their results and they are in the fight for a playoff spot which is a rare occurrence for them. The teams met just two weeks ago in Slough and it was a tight affair with a penalty shoot out required to decide the outcome. Tigers came away with the extra point after scoring the 14th penalty shot! Tigers new signings Tom Carlon and new import Rory Hermann have already made an impact and whilst Bees know they can win in Telford they also know on a good night Tigers can really turn it on.
Safe travels to the team and supporters.
