Weekend Teaser: A weekend with the Raiders and the Steeldogs
A weekend with the Raiders and the Steeldogs
Bees fail to add points to their league and cup tallies
With high hopes after the three point weekend Bees came across two tough opponents last weekend and sadly no points were gained. On Saturday night in Sheffield the Bees stood up well to the Steeldogs and at times appeared to be the better team. With a 0-0 scoreline heading into the third period it really could have gone either way. Steeldogs were the first to score but just 37 seconds later Dominik Gabaj brought the Bees back level. Steeldogs edged ahead again and then were awarded a penalty shot. A great stop from Gossy kept the score at 2-1 but shortly after Steeldogs were able to add one more goal to their tally and this was to be the last goal of the evening. The Steeldogs owed much of their win to their netminder who was on top form and made some huge saves during the match.
Sunday saw the Telford Tigers first visit to Slough. The league champions from last season were never going to be a pushover and that certainly was the case. A bizarre first period saw a change of goalie for the Bees after Tigers had taken a 2-0 lead. To be honest the first of those goals was unstoppable and the second could be considered as bad luck. Gossy came off and made way for DWE who was instrumental in earning Bees a point in Bristol last week. Bees brought a goal back before Tigers went up several gears and increased their lead to 7-1 and the clock was still only showing 14.28. There were some quality goals in amongst these and perhaps some where the defence could have done better. Another netminder change back to Gossy seemed to calm everything down and Bees started to claw their way back into the game with the final scoreline of 8-4 to the Tigers confirming all the damage had been done in the first period. Every team has the occasional bad day in the office and Sunday was Bees. Sometimes tactical changes work and sometimes they don't, we guess you don't know if you don't try. One positive to take from the match is that the Bees never gave up and kept fighting until the end.

Coming up the Bees head to Romford and the Steeldogs come to Slough
Bees head to Romford on Saturday for the first meeting of the Bees in the league this season. The teams did meet preseason for the Everyone Active Cup where Raiders edged both home and away games to win the cup. Raiders currently sit one place above Bees in the league with just a 2 point gap between the teams, something the Bees will not want to see widen. It's fair to say that the games between Bees and Raiders are always very competitive and ones that stoke the passion within the players, we're sure Saturday's game will be no different and it should be one to watch. We will be providing coverage on Twitter and Instagram for anyone who is unable to make the trip.
Sheffield Steeldogs travel to Slough on Sunday evening. Steeldogs narrowly beat Bees last weekend and Bees will be out for revenge. Steeldogs have a home fixture against Basingstoke Bison on the Saturday night, with Steeldogs currently sitting 4th in the league and just 2 points ahead of Bison this should be a hard fought match which could benefit the Bees.
