Weekend Teaser: Must win game in Bristol followed by a visit from the Phantoms
Must win game in Bristol followed by a visit from the Phantoms
Mixed fortunes last weekend
Raiders visited the Slough Ice Arena on Saturday night and the two teams provided us with an exciting contest. Raiders are a stronger opposition compared to last season so this was never going to be an easy game. Having said that, Bees were always in control and had a 2-0 lead by the end of the first with goals scored by Ryan Webb and Will Stead. Bees were to increase their lead in the second and we knew it wouldn't be long before Brendan Walkom had the puck in the net. Raiders were able to score their first of the night before the end of the period, a tied period and a scoreline of 3-1 going into the third. The final period saw a huge effort from Raiders to reduce the deficit and, despite some great saves from Matt Smital, Raiders scored their second goal of the evening with 5.07 remaining. The inevitable Raiders timeout followed with less than 2 minutes remaining and as expected Ethan James retired to the bench. Bees were to find the empty net after several passes in front to give Will Stead the ENG and Bees the two points with a final score of 4-2.
Sunday saw the Bees take a road trip to Telford. We have had mixed fortunes in the Telford Rink this season with one loss and one win but Tigers were to prove too strong for Bees on the night coming out with a 7-3 win. Juha Lindgren, Brendan Walkom and Dan Bradley scoring his first Bees goal were on target for the Bees.
Player of the Weekend Results
Congratulations to Brendan Walkom who with 42% of the vote has won his third player of the weekend in a row, Will Stead came in second with 29%. Who will be up for the vote next?

Coming up the Bees meet third place Phantoms
Bees head to Bristol on Saturday night for what must be considered a must win game to keep the Bees playoffs hopes alive. Pitbulls form has been a bit inconsistent of late but Bees have only managed to gain one point out of four in their previous encounters in Bristol this season.
We will see many familiar faces playing for Bristol, most notably Ed Bradley who made the move from Bees to the Pitbulls in the off season on a 2-way contact with the Cardiff Devils and some of the Slough players who signed two way deals with Pitbulls in the off season. Peterborough Phantoms visit Slough on Sunday afternoon. Phantoms are currently sitting third in the league and have a clean sweep over the Bees so far this season. Having said that the games were on the whole close and Bees could find the extra they need to get the better of the Phantoms this time. Bees need to keep a close eye on Glenn Billing, Duncan Speirs, Lukas Sladkovsky, Corey McEwen and Ales Padelek as any goals for Phantoms will surely come from these players.
It has been fantastic to see Joe Baird, Josh Martin and Josh Smith back on the ice for the Bees after they were side-lined with injury. Bees have been plagued with bad luck with Alan Lack and Dan Rose becoming our latest players unable to ice. Hopefully we will have some good news on them soon.
We'll keep you up to date with the Pitbull's game on Saturday evening but there will be no coverage on Sunday night's fixture as we are heading across the pond for a few days.
