Weekend Teaser: A double header with the Pitbulls
What does weekend six have in store for the Bees?
Season weekend five review
As with last week it was a weekend of highs and lows. On Saturday evening the Bees welcomed the Solway Sharks to Slough and the Bees came away with a 5-3 victory after an entertaining evening of hockey and fun as the Shark's fans entertained us with their costumes. On target for the Bees were Marcel Balaz and Will Stead with two goals each and Dominik Gabaj with one.
Bees travelled over to Romford on the Sunday to meet the Raiders. They are the surprise team so far this season and within minutes of the game starting it was obvious why. They were extremely quick which enabled them to get in good scoring positions ahead of the Bees defence. Bees actually outshot the Raiders but the combination of Raiders speed and finishing and Ethan James' performance in goal ensured that Raiders came away with a 7-2 win. Bees goals came from Marcel Balaz and Vanya Antonov.
My opinion - Hockey is a game of highs and lows. Bees are definitely producing the goods on home ice and putting bums on seats as the attendance showed a marked increase. Sunday was just not their day, they were missing Liam Morris and some of the two way players (as were Romford to be fair) and the Raiders pretty much did everything right. Just got to put your hand up and say they were the better team on the day and move on.

Next: A double header with the Pitbulls
Bees visit the Pitbulls in Bristol on Saturday before they welcome them to Slough on Sunday. The Pitbulls, at the time of writing, are 10th in the league with four points. To be fair to the Pitbulls they have been given some of the most difficult fixtures all at the start of the season as they suffered defeats to Leeds and Hull both home and away. They have shown that they are not to be written off though with a win in Sheffield against the Steeldogs and overtime losses against the MK Lightning and the Phantoms. Like the Bees, the Pitbulls have used one of their import slots for their goalie Tommy Napier who has a .8702 save percentage. Their top scorers are imports Nick Pryce and Tanner Butler, and former Bee Bayley Harewood. Based on recent results their form is improving and Bees cannot afford to underestimate them.
Bees have announced that Harvey Stead will be returning to the Bees on Sunday under a limited dual registration, many of the fans will be happy to see him back in the team. With Streatham playing on Saturday evening and Slough Jets playing on both Saturday and Sunday, the Bees access to two-way players will be limited against the Pitbulls and having Harvey in the lineup will definitely help.
The good news for Bees is that the Pitbulls have a three game weekend with a Friday night fixture up in Milton Keynes. Will the Pitbulls have the stamina to play 180 minutes of regulation over three days? I guess we will see.
All that is left to say is safe travels to the Bees team and fans travelling to Bristol on Saturday and to the Pitbulls and their travelling fans heading to Slough on Sunday.
Come on you Bees!
