Weekend Teaser: Jack Goodchild is a Bee

Phantoms too strong for Bees
Phantoms edged out the Bees 4-2 in our first game of 2023. A goalless first period saw both teams awarded 2 powerplay opportunities each. It's fair to say that many of the Bees fans believed the 2 minute minor check to the head penalty awarded to Phantoms seemed lenient especially as JJ Pitchley was down on the ice for several minutes but that's hockey. Bees would be the first to score on the night, an even handed goal scored by JJ timed at 22.34.It didn't take Phantoms too long to equalise and then take the lead. Gossy made some outstanding saves to keep the Bees in the game and at the end of the second Bees were trailing by the one goal. Phantoms had the best scoring opportunities in the third and stretched their lead to 4-1 but Bees hadn't given up and a great goal by Juha brought the Bees back to within 2 goals. The Bees pressured Phantoms into an interference call at 58.52 which meant only one thing a timeout for the Bees followed by pulling Gossy for the extra man. Despite all their efforts Bees were unable to make the extra men count and with a final score of 4-2 the Phantoms took the spoils.

New Signing
Jack Goodchild is the latest signing for the Bees. Making the move from Swindon Wildcats, Jack is a forward and is 20 years old. He represented GB at the under 20's world championships last season with one goal and one assist. He began his hockey as a junior at Slough and Bracknell so he's no stranger to the black, white and gold. Welcome to the Bees Jack!
Coming up - Bees visit the Bison and welcome the Steeldogs to Slough
Bees face Bison in Basingstoke on Saturday evening. The last time the teams met in Basingstoke was 29th October 2022 when Bees came out on top of a 3-4 scoreline. Bison did however get their own back when they visited Slough in early December with a 7-1 win. Bison have had their fair share of woes recently having made a good impression at the start of the season. Neil Liddiard joined their roster this week and will add some maturity to their line up. Bees will see the return of Dom Gabaj who has served his 10 game ban and finally gets the opportunity to coach from the bench. Games between these teams are always passionate and tense and Saturday's will be no different.
Sunday sees the Steeldogs visit the Bees. There has been just one home and one away game between the teams so far this season. Both games were close encounters with Steeldogs edging out the Bees by 3-1 and 2-1 scorelines. Sitting 4th in the league, Steeldogs will be a threat but hopefully some luck will come Bees way.
We are now into the second half of the league campaign, having played a third of the league an import down and our loss of several key players due to injury has definitely not helped the cause but moving up the league and into a playoff spot isn't totally out of reach. To be honest this time last year the Bees league position wasn't so healthy. Mid January 2022 we saw Alan Lack added to the roster to help our push to the playoffs and the team found the results they had been working so hard to achieve. Undoubtedly our performances in the last three months of the regular season and in the playoffs were the best all season. With Dom back on the ice and Adam Rosbottom's return on the horizon as well as the recent return of Josh Smith from injury we are hoping that Bees will return to winning ways.
