Weekend Teaser: Last life for playoff hopes

 Last life for playoff hopes

Bees first shut out of the season and pipped to the post in Swindon

A visit to Swindon on Saturday night saw the Bees in a tight encounter with the Wildcats. Period one ended 1-1, Dan Rose scoring the first goal of the game assisted by Luke Jackson and  Adam Rosbottom who has returned to the Bees line up after leave for his role in the RAF. Wildcats were to edge 2-1 in front by the end of the second and went a goal further ahead in the third on the powerplay. Bees brought themselves back to one goal behind with a brilliant goal scored by Dom Gabaj assisted by Will Stead  but were unable to find the game tying goal with the final score of 3-2 ending the game in favour of Swindon. Gossy stood firm in the net all evening, preventing many good goal scoring opportunities for the Wildcats.

Sunday saw the Bristol Pitbulls visit Slough. Both teams are evenly matched with 3 of their last 4 meetings going into overtime, tonight was to be a very different affair though. Bees were determined to avoid a repeat of the previous matches and were 2-0 up at the end of the first thanks to goals from Brendan Walkom and Dom Gabaj. Brendan was to increase the lead to 3-0 in the second period with his second goal of the evening. The third saw more of the same as the Pitbulls still couldn't get past Gossy who was on fire and decided the only option was to pull their goalie. This gave rise to two empty net goals for the Bees scored by Juha Lindgren and Dan Rose and Bees came away with a 5-0 win with the first shutout of the season.

Coming up the Bees welcome the Seahawks to Slough and follow them home to Hull

Bees face the Seahawks twice this weekend, firstly at home on Saturday and then on Sunday when Bees take the long road trip to Hull. The Seahawks didn't have the best of luck earlier in the season, their imports were unable to ice until November due to delays in their clearance by the UK authorities. They received a further blow when in his first game Emil Svec was given a match penalty for checking to the head which resulted in a 10 game ban. Seahawks have a similar record in the league to the Bees and are currently winning the series between the teams 2-1. At this stage of the season both teams playoff hopes are fading but still not dead and buried but the results of these two games will definitely be vital to give either team a chance of fighting for a place in Coventry.
