Weekend Teaser: Robbed by the Tigers and Phantoms good form continues
Robbed by the Tigers and Phantoms good form continues
One point out of four but should have been more
The Tigers came to tea on Saturday evening and given their poor form of late we had hopes that the points were Bees for the taking. Tigers new import, Rory Hermann, was debuting for the team and Bees saw the eagerly awaited return of Josh Martin from injury, James Galazzi returned from suspension but sadly Alan Lack was absent from the line up. Although Tigers were the first to score the Bees found themselves 2-1 up at the end of the first period courtesy of a brace from Brendan Walkom. Tigers brought the game back to 2-2 half way through the second period before an altercation at the Tigers net between Josh Martin and Brad Day (Tigers n/m) and a melee of other Tigers saw Bees given a 5 on 3 opportunity and who should net for the Bees?, Brendan Walkom scoring his hat trick goal. Period 3 saw the Tigers push for the equaliser and a Tigers timeout called at 57.54 saw Brad Day pulled at the first opportunity and Rory Hermann was to score his first goal for the Tigers timed at 58.43. Regulation time was to end at 3-3 and overtime was goalless, Tigers did have the puck in the net but it was off its moorings fortunately for the Bees. The penalty shoot out was very even and it took the 14th penalty shot to decide the game, Tiger's Luka finding the net and giving his team the extra point. On balance the Bees were the better team on the night and deserved the two points but Tigers battled away to deny them. Three weeks ago we would have been delighted with a point but with the team's recent form it was a disappointment to miss out on the extra point.
Sunday night saw the Bees travel to Peterborough who are the in form team at the moment. So far this season the Phantoms have won all the fixtures between the two teams and sadly this game was to follow the pattern. Bees goals from Brendan Walkom, Josh Martin and JJ Pitchley were not to be enough and Phantoms came away with a 6-3 win.
Player of the Weekend Results
Not surprisingly your player of the weekend was Brendan Walkom with 38% of the vote, JJ Pitchley gave him a bit of competition coming second with 30%. Many congratulations to Brendan. Who will be up for the vote this weekend?

Coming up - double derby weekend
Bees head down the M4 on Saturday hoping for a repeat performance of our win on Friday 13th January in Slough against the Wildcats. This will be our second visit to the Link Centre this season. Last time Bees visited Wiltshire we came away with the 2 points with a 3-2 win in a game where the Bees were short benched but were able to keep the Wildcats at bay. Bees success just two weeks ago was partly due to reading Wildcats play and intercepting moves before they materialised into serious threats so if they can get the same control mid ice we should hopefully see a similar result.
Sunday sees the Bees return home to welcome the Bison. The teams have played each other four times so far in the league this season with Bees winning three out of four of the games. Bees will hope to continue their dominance but as we all know games against Bison are never easy or predictable. Slough Jets have a night off on Sunday so we may see a few of the guys on two way deals in Bees shirts. One thing for sure is that this game is not one to miss!
