Weekend Teaser: Get your thermals on as Bees visit the Bison before a home visit from the Knights

Get your thermals on as Bees visit the Bison before a home visit from the Knights

Bees don't want the season to end

When the points from every game really matter you don't want to be visiting the league leaders in their castle but the Bees played incredibly well considering injury had side lined Alan Lack and Adam Rosbottom and the players on two-way deals were unavailable to ice too. Leeds came away with a 6-4 win but Bees gave them a run for their money as the last goal was an empty netter. Bees scorers on the night were Dan Rose, Josh Smith and Brendan Walkom with a brace.
Next up for the Bees were the Steeldogs, sitting 4th in the league they were not going to be a pushover. Bees were the stronger team on the night. With a 3-1 lead at the end of the first period, Bees looked comfortable with two goals from Dom Gabaj and one for James Galazzi. Harvey Stead was to increase the Bees lead in the second with what was to be the game winning goal. The Steeldogs edged the third period by 2 goals to 1 but the damage had already been done and Bees came away with two valuable points from the 5-3 win to move them above the Seahawks in the league. Dom had a hat trick on the night and Matt Smital made some crucial saves but it was the overall team performance that earned Bees the points.

Player of the Weekend Results

Congratulations to Matt Smital and Harvey Stead who tied for player of the weekend with  34% of the vote each, this week was always going to be tight and there were plenty of other players who deserved to be in the poll and didn't make it.

Coming up the Bees face the local rivals down the M3 and the Knights come to Slough

Bees head to Basingstoke on Saturday, I give up predicting these games as you never know what is going to happen. Bison visited Slough in January and in a 15 goal thriller scored the winner in the final minute of regulation. That loss did not go down well in the Bees camp and they will be looking to overcome the Bison in their barn. What I can predict is that the rink will be absolutely freezing and I recommend at least 5 layers to have any chance of keeping warm.
Sunday sees the Knights make the long road trip to Slough, they have edged the Bees all season but those games have on the whole been close and to be honest they have been dominant against most teams as only 4 teams in the league have managed to get the better of the Knights. They are "down south" all weekend as they visit the Wildcats on the Saturday evening. With an eye on the first leg of the the National Cup final on 17th March in Peterborough, the Knights may try to play it safe in Slough as they can ill afford injuries as Phantoms will provide tough opposition for them after previously having back to back wins over the Knights in January. Whilst Bees playoff chances are hanging by a thread and depend on other results going their way, they need to bank every point left available to keep them in the mix.
