Weekend Teaser: Bees look to go out on a high

Bees look to go out on a high in the last weekend of the season

Bees show their true colours in three point weekend

First up last weekend Bees were on the road in Milton Keynes still elated after their win against the Lightning the previous weekend. Bees started off where they finished in the previous game with Adam Rosbottom scoring just 1.08 into the game. MKL tied the game just over two minutes later with what was to be the last goal of the first period. The second period was to produce another goal for each team, Bees go ahead goal was short handed and scored by Will Stead timed at 36.43 but MKL were to draw level again to set up a thrilling third period. The third period was also to produce a goal for each team, Bees goal coming courtesy of Brendan Walkom at 43.27. MKL scored the equaliser with 42 seconds left of the period after pulling their goalie. Overtime lasted just over a minute when MKL found the back of the net and walked away with the extra point.
Sunday saw the Bristol Pitbulls make the journey up the M4 to Slough. As both teams had been eliminated from qualification for the playoffs this game was not make or break but with Bees within touching distance of Pitbulls in the league you could see both teams meant business. Bees were to make the better start winning the first period 1-0 with a goal from Dominik Gabaj timed at 15.47. Dom had been missing from the ice previous to this due an incident on the ice which required him to leave for treatment and change his shirt (twice!). Bees continued their dominance in the second period and doubled their lead with a short handed goal scored by Brendan Walkom timed at 30.43.  The third period saw Bristol undo all Bees good work as they scored two goals in quick succession to take the game into overtime with a 2-2 scoreline. This was the fourth encounter between the teams this season requiring overtime to split the teams. Pitbulls were given a penalty for holding just 24 seconds into the overtime, a penalty they arguably had to take to avoid Brendan going in on goal. Bees were relentless in the resultant  powerplay dominating the offensive zone and keeping the puck inside the blue line for over a minute. When the puck did enter the neutral zone Pitbulls saw the chance to change but Dom reacted quickly during the changeover to allow himself to take a shot when Bristol were out of position and he didn't hesitate to get the puck in the net, winning Bees the extra point.

Player of the Weekend Results

Congratulations to Dominik Gabaj  who with 37% of the vote is this week's player of the weekend, Brendan Walkom came a close second with 33%.  Who will win the last player of the weekend of the season this week?

Coming up the Bees have a Friday night date at Raiders before Wildcats visit Slough for the last game of the regular season

Bees head to Romford on Friday night hoping to earn two more points to give them a chance to leapfrog Pitbulls in the league table. Raiders have clinched their playoff spot with a vastly improved team from last season, they may play it safe to avoid any unnecessary risks of injury so close to the playoffs and Bees may be able to capitalise on this.
Sunday sees the Wildcats head up the M4 to Slough, Bees have had some good results against the Wildcats this season so know what they have to do to better this team. There will be plenty of support for the Wildcats on Sunday as the away area is pretty much sold out already in Slough. Hopefully it will be a great game to conclude the Bees' season.
