Weekend Teaser: Bees looking to overcome the Steeldogs and Sharks
What does weekend twenty three have in store for the Bees?
Season weekend twenty two review
The Bees had a double header weekend playing the Telford Tigers at home on Saturday night before heading to Shropshire the following evening. It's fair to say that the Tigers came out fighting on Saturday evening and the Bees were unable to play their style of play that has given them recent success against the Knights, Lightning and Wildcats and they found themselves 3-0 down by the 35 minute mark. The Bees did get on the scoreboard at 35.14 when Liam Morris put away a precise pass from Ollie Hemmings-Maher although the Tigers were to score again just 17 seconds later. A second goal for the Bees in the period scored by Dominik Gabaj saw the Tigers take a 4-2 lead into the third. They extended their lead again less than 5 minutes into the third and although Dominik Gabaj was to score his second goal of the night at 53.41 the Bees were unable to score again and the Tigers took the 2 points back to Telford.
A rematch on the Sunday night in Telford was going to end happily for the Bees despite the Tigers making a better start to the game taking a 2-1 lead into the second period, Jacob Ranson scoring the Bees opening goal which was his first goal for the Bees. The second period saw the Bees apply more pressure and they were rewarded with two goals scored by Marcel Balaz. Tigers did score just 11 seconds before the end of the period though to tie the scores at 3-3 going into the third. Bees were to take the lead again as Ralfs Circenis made the most of being unmarked at the backdoor and made no mistake with his shot. As was a pattern in this game the Tigers were to bring the scores level again just after the 50 minute mark and with the scores tied at 4-4 at the end of regulation overtime was required. There were good opportunities for both teams to score in overtime but the Bees were the ones to get the puck in the net. The Tigers who were advancing on Max Wright decided to change a player exactly when the Bees took possession of the puck breaking away from the remaining Tigers on the ice. The two on one play saw Dominik Gabaj make a pass just in front of goal to Will Stead who made no mistake in getting the puck past Brad Day, securing the second point for the Bees.
My opinion - The Tigers made sure that the Bees couldn't play their usual style of play on Saturday and you couldn't really argue with the result. Sunday saw a Bees side who weren't going to go down without a fight and they worked hard to secure the two points. Max Wright performed solidly on both evenings however Brad Day's save percentage took a hit on Sunday and whilst the Bees may not always have the shot tally we would like they made sure that they made enough of them count.

Next: Away to Sheffield before the Sharks swim into Slough
On Saturday the Bees play the Steeldogs in Sheffield. The teams only met two weeks ago in Slough where a penalty shootout was required to separate the teams, the Steeldogs winning courtesy of a Sam Tremblay penalty shot. The good news for the Bees and bad news for the Steeldogs is that since that game Sam Tremblay has moved to the Steelers and will be unavailable to the Steeldogs for the remainder of the season. This doesn't mean that this game will be easy as there is still plenty of depth in the Steeldogs squad and Walker Sommer remains a huge threat recording 84 points so far this season. How well the team will adapt to being an import down may ultimately decide this fixture.
Bees welcome the Sharks to Slough on Sunday evening and we're looking forward to seeing if their travelling fans bring their shark costumes with them. The Sharks currently sit 9th in the league just one point behind 8th place. The imports for the Sharks have really delivered this season with Nolan Gardiner on 75 points and John Dunbar on 69 points. Their netminder Jordan Marr, signed in the off season from the playoff winning side the Peterborough Phantoms, has a save percentage of .889%. The Sharks have recorded 4 losses and 1 shootout loss in their last 5 games and this has allowed the Tigers to jump ahead of them into the all important playoffs places so they will want to pick up some points this weekend. They face the Hull Seahawks in Dumfries on Saturday evening before they head south of the border on Sunday.
All that is left to say is safe travels to the Bees players and the travelling fans heading to Sheffield on Saturday and to the Sharks players and their travelling fans heading to Slough on Sunday.
Come on you Bees!
