Weekend Teaser: Just the one game this weekend but it's a biggie!

What does weekend thirteen have in store for the Bees?

Season weekend twelve review

Bees started with a home fixture against the Sheffield Steeldogs on Saturday evening. With a limited roster of 13 players this was going to be a tough game but the players gave their all and more. This game was an absolute goal fest with the teams delivering 14 goals between them. The scoreline yoyoed with Bees taking a 3-1 lead and then the Steeldogs taking a 6-3 lead for the Bees to then bring it back to 6-6. The Steeldogs found two late goals to give them the two points.

Bees travelled up to Hull on the Sunday to meet the Seahawks team who haven't had the best form of late. Hull raced away to a 3-0 lead by the end of the first period but the second period belonged to the Bees who won the period 2-1 bringing themselves to within two goals at the end of the period. The Seahawks were to score first in the third period and then a Balaz goal brought the Bees back within two. However, a final second goal gave the Seahawks a 6-3 win.

My opinion - This was the toughest weekend for the Bees given the combination of a short bench and the teams they were up against. The unavailability of two-way players and the increasing list of injured players did not help the Bees cause. There is no quick solution to the problem with no established junior teams to promote players to the Bees and with the club running the team on a tight budget. The poor relationship between the Slough Jets and the Bees has been debated on social media this week. Some people are surprised that the clubs aren't more cooperative but this is common knowledge to most people who support the teams at the Slough Ice Arena. The Bees have some former Jets players on the roster and maybe this is a reason for the uncongenial relationship but with a two-way deal in place between the clubs for Ollie Hemmings-Maher there is obviously agreement at some level. One Slough player made it abundantly clear that he would not entertain a two-way deal with the Bees, the phrase about burning bridges comes to mind and I hope he doesn't regret his words. No doubt the club will be working towards a solution but how quickly they can do this remains to be seen. Regardless of these circumstances every single player who stepped on the ice for the Bees last weekend deserves our praise. They worked so hard and their determination and resoluteness was clear for us all to see. The Steeldogs left the ice celebrating like they had won the playoffs which just shows how hard the Bees pushed them.

Player of the Weekend Result

We didn't want to single anyone out as all the players were outstanding. There's no "i" in team and to see everyone come together and play with such determination and heart was incredibly gratifying to see.

Next: Home to the Knights

The good news is that the Bees only have one game this upcoming weekend but the bad news is that the Knights are heading to Slough. On Saturday evening the teams will meet in Slough for the second time this season. Back on 5th October the Bees came out 2-1 winners against last year's league winners. The Leeds Knights currently sit second in the league, two points adrift of the MK Lightning although they do have a game in hand. I don't need to say how good the Knights are as that's a given but depending on the player availability and Ash and Dom's tactics this could be a very interesting game. There should be some two-way players available as both the Slough Jets and Cardiff Canucks do not have a game that night so the coaches will have a few more options open to them.

All that is left to say is safe travels to the Knights and their travelling fans heading to Slough on Saturday.

Come on you Bees!
