Weekend Teaser: Bees head north of the border
What does weekend fourteen have in store for the Bees?
Season weekend thirteen review
With just one game last weekend against the Leeds Knights, Bees fans were delighted to see Josh Smith back on the ice after a lengthy stint on the injury balcony. The team was also boosted by having many of the two-way players available too. Sadly, this game was not going to go well in many ways and by 16.08 in the first period the Bees were already 5-0 down. The second period was a much more even period shared 1-1 with Bees goal scored by Will Stead. A goalless third period saw the Knight leave Slough with a 6-1 win. The talking point of the night was the number of penalties with Bees amassing 83 minutes and the Knights 116 minutes. A number of the incidents were reviewed by DOPS, Bees Liam Morris has received suspensions following two separate penalties during the game and will be unavailable to the Bees until the new year.
My opinion - Even though the Bees banked a home win against the Knights in October we all knew that this was going to be one tough game. To go down by 5 goals before the end of the first period was utterly disappointing but for me the officiating was the biggest disappointment. I'm not going to debate whether some of the calls were correct or not but the officials had the opportunity to stamp their authority down in the first period and they didn't. This allowed the ill-feeling to fester and eventually explode. I can understand the Bees' players frustration as we were all feeling it, it has been a tough start to the season and this game brought their feelings to a head (rightly or wrongly). What I don't get is why a team winning by 5 goals by the end of the first wouldn't just go out and finish the game off, taking advantage of being able to give valuable ice time to the third and fourth lines and get the job done as simply as possible. I guess that's why we all love ice hockey as you never know what you are going to get.

Next: A double header in Scotland
Bees head to Dumfries for two away games with the Sharks. The Solway team currently sit in the final playoff spot in the league with 22 points from 24 games. The Bees will travel without any two-way players and with Liam Morris sidelined due to suspension it is going to be up to the core squad to do the business again. The teams have met just once this season when Bees won 5-3 in Slough but that was with a bench boosted with the two-way players. I'm sure the team will give it their all and it will be a great weekend for the travelling fans.
All that is left to say is safe travels to the Bees players and fans heading to Dumfries.
Come on you Bees!
