Weekend Teaser: Bees look to put some points on the table

What does weekend two have in store for the Bees?

Season weekend one review

An away game at Swindon and a home game to the playoff champions, Peterborough Phantoms, was never going to be an easy start to the Bees league campaign. The Wildcats appeared to be an in form team based on their pre season results and Bees kept them at bay for the first period with some doubt whether the Wildcats first goal went over the line or not. After a debate it was given and the teams went into the period one break tied at 1-1. Wildcats went on to dominate the Bees in the next two periods finishing with a 6-2 win. Both Bees goals came from Marcel Balaz.
Like us, Phantoms have utilised one import slot for their goalie, Hayden Lavigne. Phantoms opened the scoring with a sniper from the blue line before Vanya Antonov equalised for the Bees bringing the first period to a close tied at 1-1. The second period was scoreless and Phantoms got their go ahead goal 7 minutes into the third and this was how the scoreline remained despite Bees pulling Max Wright for the extra skater.

My opinion - playing the Wildcats away is never an easy game and Bees were a match for the Swindon team for the first period. Did the controvertial goal/no goal for Swindon rock the Bees? The answer is no, as every team knows decisions go for and against you rightly or wrongly and it's part of the game. Bees played tightly during the first period and this slipped slightly in the second and third, a team like the Wildcats will take the smallest opportunities and they did. Bees took the loss on the chin and came out the next day against the Phantoms focused and gave a great overall performance. Maybe the odd call didn't go our way and it turns out a major penalty call was missed by the officials which in hindsight could have changed the result of the game. A one goal loss to the playoff champions is not too shabby and as a fan I couldn't ask more for the effort the team put in.

Player of the Weekend Result

Congratulations to Max Wright who is the player of the weekend, he wins thanks to your votes on Twitter with 46% of the vote.

Next: Away to the Phantoms and home to the Wildcats

Week two of the season sees a reversal of last weekends games. Firstly Bees head to Peterborough on Saturday 21st September knowing just one goal split the sides last Saturday. Bees know what to expect now and have to make those tweaks to their game to come away with the win. Hayden Lavigne in goal is where Bees have to focus, if he sees a shot he will save it. Bees need to block his view and take the unexpected shot and work hard for the rebounds.
Bees welcome the Wildcats on Sunday 22nd September. Other than the win against the Bees, Swindon suffered an overtime loss in Romford last weekend in a game they appeared to have have the points in the bank at the 57th minute. Two late goals from the Raiders tied the game and they scored in the resultant overtime. The new Wildcats import could be the one to watch here, Jake Bricknell scored twice last weekend but sat 4 penalty minutes. He's a threat on the puck but can lack discipline at times. Something for the Bees to consider for sure.

Due to other commitments on Saturday night our updates will be limited but we'll be back to normal service on Sunday.

All that is left to say is safe travels to the Bees and their travelling fans heading to Peterborough on Saturday and to the Wildcats and their fans travelling on Sunday.

Come on you Bees!
