Weekend Teaser: Week Two of the Playoffs

 Bees road to Coventry continues

Phantoms make a perfect start to the playoffs at Bees expense 

The first weekend of the playoffs saw the Bees take on the Peterborough Phantoms both home and away. Bees were missing Will Stead who picked up an injury in Sheffield the previous weekend which has ruled him out of the playoffs. Ryan Webb and Adam Rosbottom were also missing from the line ups for both games. Dom had to jiggle with the lines and the third line was more heavily called on and showed a great deal of promise. The Phantoms were missing two players through suspension but their team brought their A game with them playing a consistent high standard of hockey over the weekend. Phantoms edged out the Bees on both evenings despite the Bees putting everything they had into both matches. Vanya Antonov scored two goals over the weekend with Aidan Doughty and Gianni Vitali with one goal each. There were one or two goals scored against the Bees that they would have liked back but the Phantoms were clinical with the chances created.

Week in, week out this man keeps the Bees in the games and with 40% of the vote Brython Preece is our player of the weekend. He now has 5 wins for the season, more than any other player so far and deservedly so.

Next - Week two of the playoffs sees a double header with the Seahawks

Bees double header with the Seahawks starts with a home fixture on Saturday and then away the following day. Hull had a tough first playoff weekend as they faced the league champions twice. The Leeds Knights showed why they are the best team in the league by winning 8-3 in Leeds and then taking a 6-3 win away from Hull. This means, like the Bees, the Seahawks are pointless and this weekend is vital for both teams. The Seahawks played in Slough three times this season, Bees won two games by just one goal and the third was won by the Seahawks after a shootout was required to split the teams. The Seahawks won both games between the teams in Hull, although Bees made a good fight of the most recent one requiring overtime to get a result. The standout player for Hull is Emil Svec who with 111 points in the regular season is the third highest points scorer in the league. He didn't register any points last weekend against the Leeds Knights so the key to the Bees success this weekend is to prevent him making the impact he is capable of. Another player Bees need to contain is Owen Sobchak who scored 48 points from just 19 games for Hull after his move from Bristol during the regular season. Looking at the goaltending is interesting too. Jordan McLaughlin was between the pipes for the Seahawks last weekend and he faced 62 shots over the two games and let in 14 goals giving him a .774% save percentage. This is way below his regular season average of .885%. Brython Preece faced 69 shots and conceded 8 goals and had a save percentage of .884%, a very slight improvement over his season average of.881%.  Bees need to pepper the away goal with shots, they will have some success for sure and the goals don't have to be pretty to get the result they need.   

All that is left to say is safe travels to the Bees and Hull players and supporters travelling down and up the country over the weekend. Come on you Bees!

Season weekend twenty review  The Bees had a rare Friday night fixture with the Bristol Pitbulls who are their nearest rivals in the league table. The Pitbulls travelled without one of their imports and it looked like the Bees were in control at the end of the first as they led 2-0 thanks to an even-handed goal scored by Will Stead and a PPG scored by Josh Smith. Weekend Teaser: A double dose of Tigers

   What does weekend twenty two have in store for the Bees? Season weekend twenty one review  The Bees travelled to Swindon on Saturday to take on the Wildcats who are a serious contender in the league title race. The Bees have a knack of raising their game against the top teams and this is exactly what they did. The Wildcats took the lead early in the first with a goal scored by Aaron Nell but Bees' Ralf Circenis brought the scores level before the end of the period with a powerplay goal. With no goals in the second period there was all to play for in the third. Bees took the lead for the first time thanks to a powerplay goal scored by Will Stead timed at exactly 43 minutes and just over 7 minutes later the Wildcats equalised, Ryan Wells the scorer. The goal announcement hadn't even finished as just 20 seconds later Dominik Gabaj gave the Bees the lead again. Weekend Teaser: Friday night is hockey night in Slough

   What does weekend twenty have in store for the Bees? Season weekend nineteen review  It just wasn't the Bees weekend. Having seen off the Knights and Lightning over the previous two weekends it seemed the team had turned a corner on the bad luck they had suffered with a depleted roster due to injuries. It also looked like Vanya Antonov leaving to ply his trade at Swindon would not have a significant impact on the team but the team was to suffer defeats home and away with a 4-1 loss in both fixtures. The Telford Tigers travelled to Slough on Saturday and their imports were to dominate scoring all four of their goals. Bees goal was scored by Josh Martin, his first goal since he returned to the Bees last month. On Sunday the Bees travelled to Leeds to take on the Knights who are now in a title race battle with the Lightning and the Wildcats.
