Weekend Teaser: Final games for Bees class of 23/24

 Bees playoff dreams are over

Seahawks end Bees hopes of a place at Coventry

With both the Seahawks and Bees pointless after the first weekend of the playoffs, gaining points from the two games between the teams was critical to have any chance of making the final four in Coventry. On both evenings Bees made competitive starts against the team from Hull but over the 60 minutes the Seahawks had more in the tank and came away with an 11-5 win in Slough and a 6-2 win in their home rink. It was always going to be hard for Bees to get the results from the team that finished four places above them in the league but the Seahawks were relentless and did what they had to do to keep their playoff dreams alive. Bees top points scorers over the weekend were Vanya Antonov, Dominik Gabaj, Gianni Vitali and Marcel Balaz who each had 3 points. Each and every player gave their all but the Seahawks tactics gave them the edge in the end.

Player of the Weekend Results

Our penultimate player of the weekend for the season with 51% of the vote is Vanya Antonov.  He is now our joint top winner as he joins Brython with 5 wins for the season and we're positive Dom will do whatever he can to keep Vanya in the squad for next season.

Next - Last weekend of the playoffs sees a double header with the Knights

The results last weekend mean Bees are unable to progress to the playoff weekend in Coventry but the three other teams in our groups are still battling it out for the two places available. The Knights have been formidable and are worthy league champions with only 8 losses in the league all season. A win for Leeds against the Bees in their castle on Saturday evening will clinch their playoff spot and depending on the result of the Hull/Phantoms game that night it may also guarantee them first position in the group. Sunday will see the Knights visit Slough, if the results have gone their way then we may see a nice clean game with the Knights players not wanting to risk any suspensions with the playoff weekend just around the corner. However, it could be tense if they are in need of the win. Although Bees have nothing to play for, they have their pride and it will be the last time they all play together as no doubt there will be some changes in the off season as there always are. Only four teams can make the finals so we are not the only ones who will be disappointed but there was always the hope that maybe this year could have been our year.

All that is left to say is safe travels to the Bees and Knights players and supporters travelling down and up the country over the weekend. Come on you Bees!
