Weekend Teaser: Bees are playoffs bound
Bees dig deep and come away with the playoff berth
Bees win against Solway Sharks to clinch last playoff spot
Bees headed to Romford on Saturday evening to play the Raiders, who like Bees were looking to cement a place in the playoffs. The first period saw Bees take the lead twice, the first goal a shorthanded goal by Marcel Balaz. Adam Laishram equalised for the Raiders before Will Stead scored Bees second. The period ended 2-2 as Laishram was on target again. The second period saw the Raiders go ahead with 2 more goals for Laishram and Bees were behind by two going into the third. The Raiders scored 4 more goals in the third to win 8-2 and book their place in the playoffs. After the second period I had an inkling that the team tactics were to take the foot off the pedal if Raiders scored one more which is what appeared to happen. At that stage the Sharks were beating Tigers and the Bees game against the Sharks the following evening was looking like being even more crucial than it already was. The Tigers overcame the Sharks but Bees still needed a win against the Sharks who needed at least a point off the Bees to keep their playoff dreams alive.
The Sharks certainly meant business on the Sunday in Slough. The first period ended 1-0 to the Bees, who had successfully defended a 5 on 3. Moggy put in a lot of ice time including a 3 minute shift, 2 minutes of which were during the 5 on 3. He was outstanding all night. Bees goal was scored by Dominik Gabaj. Sharks scored their first of the night early on in the second period but Bees extended their lead thanks to goals from Liam Morris and Marcel Balaz (his 50th goal of the season). Sharks brought themselves within one around the half way mark of the period and the period ended 3-2 to the Bees. Sharks tied the game again in the third but a Gianni Vitali goal timed at 53.52 would prove to be the game winning goal as despite throwing everything at the Bees the Sharks couldn't find the net again. Both teams gave their all and it was a fantastic battle. Bees clinched that last playoff place but for Sharks first season in the league they showed why they deserve to be there and why they will be a threat next season.

Next - Bees look to maintain momentum ahead of the playoffs
Saturday 30th March sees the Phantoms visit Slough. Although Bees playoff group is known, the Peterborough team are still fighting for 5th place in the league with the Telford Tigers. Bees will want to set our their stall with the first weekend of the playoffs just a week away where the Bees will be against either the Phantoms or Tigers. With Aidan Doughty returning to the Bees last Sunday and Josh Kelly returning for this fixture after both being sidelined with long term injuries Dom will have a full roster to choose from. One of the over 25s will have to sit out to keep the line up within the league rules
Sunday 31st March sees the Bees travel to Sheffield to play the Steeldogs. This is the last fixture of the season for the Steeldogs who have been plagued with injuries and have struggled at times and have finished outside of the playoffs. Bees can sympathise as they know what it is like to be short benched after last season but with the Steeldogs form on the up, Dom will look to take something positive away from the fixture.
All that is left to say is safe travels to the Phantoms and their fans travelling on Saturday and to the Bees and travelling fans heading to Sheffield on Sunday. Come on you Bees!
