Weekend Teaser: Can Bees get back into winning ways?

Bees look to sting the Knights

Injuries and suspensions stretch Bees too far

The Bees played away in Telford on Saturday night before returning to Slough to face the Swindon Wildcats on Sunday. Brett Shepherd found himself between the pipes for both games as a result of the injury Brython Preece sustained against the Bristol Pitbulls the previous weekend. Although the team didn't come away with the points from either game you could not fault the players effort and passion for the team to do well. Saturday's game saw a plethera of penalties for both teams but for the Bees the most significant were to the Stead brothers who both received 5+game penalties which then ruled them out of Sundays game. A loss of 8-4 in Telford on Saturday and a loss of 5-3 to Swindon on Sunday has allowed the Bees to slip to 8th in the league and they are only 4 points above the nearest team below them.

Player of the Weekend Results

Congratulations to Olly Knaggs who with 54% is our player of the weekend, he had two fantastic performances last weekend and scored his first goal for the Bees which was also his first senior goal. He also earned himself man of the match on Sunday night which was well deserved.

New signing: Welcome back Joe Baird

Last weekend we spotted Joe in the Slough rink, wondered if he had heard the rumours about the new pasta stall or whether he had another reason, well now we know as he has signed a short term contract to add depth to the Bees defence. Honestly believe over the last two seasons we saw Joe play at his best, using his maturity and skill to maximise his contribution to the D and he will definitely help the Bees short term with suspensions hitting the defence hard..

Player News

As we expected both Will and Harvey Stead will miss this weekends game against the Leeds through suspension but there is some good news with both Brython Preece and Josh Kelly being available for selection after recovering from their injuries. There were concerns that Brendan Baird may be unavailable as he picked up an injury last Sunday but he has also recovered. And if that wasn't enough to boost the defence Marcus Mitchell has also signed as emergency cover on loan from the Oxford City Stars.Marcus played at Basingstoke Bison last season so is no stranger to many of our roster and should fit in nicely.
In other news Harry Harcup has signed a two way deal with the Basingstoke Buffalo with Bees retaining first call on his availablilty for the remainder of the season.

Next - Just one game this weekend as Bees welcome the Leeds Knights

With players returning from injury and the player suspensions it is perhaps fortuitous that Bees only have one fixture this weekend at home, it's just a shame it's against the in-form Leeds Knights who head to Slough on Sunday after hosting Telford Tigers the previous evening. At the time of writing they are second in the league with 15 wins and 2 losses just two points behind the Milton Keynes Lightning but with three games in hand. Bees and Knights games tend to be an exciting affair and hopefully this one will be no different.

All that is left to say is safe travels to the Leeds players and supporters heading to Slough on Sunday. Come on you Bees!
