Weekend Teaser: Will the Bees frighten the Steeldogs defence on Halloween weekend?

Bees desire for points not letting up

Two points to show from a challenging weekend

The Bees travelled to Leeds last Saturday for what is probably the hardest away fixture in the calendar. Both goalies gave incredible performances and it required amazing goals to decide the game. Sadly for Bees Leeds produced 4 of these compared to their 1 but don't consider the result a bad defeat. Bees were not outclassed by the league leaders and on another night the result could have been very different. Vanya Antonov scored Bees goal, a nice tip in front of Gospel although we're not sure he hasn't been credited with the goal in his stats, an oversight maybe? Final score Knights 4 - 1 Bees.

Sunday saw the Hull Seahawks make the journey to Slough. Having had a rest day the day before and having beaten Bees 7-0 just two weeks previously you would think they would be marginal favourites for this tie. Bees, who were shortbenched with Rosbottom, Smith and Harvey Stead missing at the start and they were joined by Josh Kelly after a mid ice incident ruled him out for the remainder of the game, were dominant for the first half of the game. Dom had moved the lines around, Vanya now icing with Marcel and Dom on the first line. This seems to be the way to go as it was very effective with Aidan adding strength to the second line too. Bees raced to a 3-0 lead by 23.16 with goals from Balaz, Moggy and Gabaj. Hull pulled a goal back before the end of the second and then another just under 6 minutes into the third. Shortly after Hull's second goal it didn't look good as Bees went on the penalty kill but Balaz was able to clear the puck to Gabaj who skated away for a one on one short handed chance and he made sure he made it count. Hull hadn't given up and found the Bees net again to bring themselves within a goal. This was when Hull were to unravel, with 2.23 left on the clock Emil Svec took a 2 minute misconduct penalty which was followed by Bonner taking a 2 minute hooking penalty. Bees were able to play it clever, dominating the offensive zone passing between eachother and avoiding giving up the puck as much as possible and banking those 2 valuable points for the win. It was obvious Hull felt they were unfairly treated as they continued to talk to the officials long after the game had finished. Have to say the officials let a lot go earlier on in the game and maybe the Bonner hooking call wasn't any worse than what had gone before but it was blatant and misjudged given the position Hull were in. Highlight of the evening for me was Stuart Mogg's goal, weaving around three Hull players to put the puck in the net. Final score Bees 4 - 3 Seahawks.

Bees currently sit 3rd in the league with the Knights and Lightning taking up the top two places.

Player of the Weekend Results

Congratulations to Brython Preece who with 45% is our player of the weekend for the second week in a row, our runner up is Stuart Mogg with 29% who had a great weekend too especially with that sublime coast to coast goal.

Next - A home game with the Steeldogs

Saturday evening sees the Steeldogs visit Slough, the first time the teams have met this season. Steeldogs are currently 7th in the league having had mixed fortunes both at home and on the road. A team who has seen just a few changes since last season most notably the addition of GB favourite Jonathan Phillips who has stepped down from the Steelers. As we would expect, Matt Bissonnette is their top points scorer with 12 points so far this season and Dmitri Zimozdra is still strong in goal with a .917 save percentage this season. Former Bee Sam Cooper has recently signed for the Steeldogs on a two way deal with the Steelers. It's difficult to predict how this game will pan out but if Bees continue to play the way they have all season the Steeldogs will have their work cut out for them.

No game for the Bees on Sunday so they can make use of that extra hour in bed as BST comes to an end.

All that is left to say is safe travels to the Steeldogs and their fans travelling on Saturday. Come on you Bees!
