Weekend Teaser: Number 10 is Raised to the Rafters

Bees look to add more points after strong start to the season

A weekend of highs and lows and one heck of a round trip!

Early Saturday morning saw the Bees start their journey up to Dumfries for their first encounter with the league's new boys. Many have predicted the Solway Sharks will set the league on fire and that may well happen as the season progresses but Bees had the edge as the Sharks bit off more than they could chew. Dom Gabaj was the first to strike before Liam Morris doubled Bees lead in the first period. A scoreless second period was to follow but just 1.35 into the third period Marcel Balaz scored a powerplay goal to put the result beyond Sharks reach. Sharks did get a consolation goal before Brendan Baird finished the scoring for the night with a great blue line shot.

Sunday saw the Bees cross the border again as they took the comparatively shorter trip to Hull. The Seahawks have had an incredible start to the season and unfortunately for Bees their winning streak was to continue as they came out 7-0 winners on the night.
Pretty sure Bees wouldn't be using any excuses but the weekend was tough not only due to the travelling but also with some players being unavailable. Hull were also fresh as Bees were their only opponents of the weekend. Them's the breaks and hopefully the Bees can learn from the experience for the future.

Player of the Weekend Results

Congratulations to Liam Morris who with 45% is our player of the weekend, our runner up is Will Stead with 29%. Expected Liam to win (he got my vote) but sharing our post with his followers didn't do him any harm.

Next - Bees take on the Raiders before the Sharks swim into Slough

Bees will be relieved that this weekends away fixture isn't so far away but negotiating the M25 on a Friday afternoon is never an easy task as many of us know from previous fixtures. Raiders have had mixed fortunes in the season so far with two wins, three losses and an overtime loss. Their two wins have come at home against the Sharks and the Wildcats. Still waiting to fill their third import slot, Raiders imports Nick Leyer and Adam Laishram have shown they are a major threat together with with Jake Sylvester who is always dangerous on the puck. We're heading there on the Elizabeth Line and will bring you all the action as it happens.

Sunday sees the Solway Sharks first visit to Slough this season. Sharks who are yet to put some points on the table will be looking for revenge after Bees came away from Dumfries with a 4-1 win last Saturday. Following their bad run the Sharks have released forward Bari McKenzie who has failed to register a point for the team. Sharks face the Raiders on Saturday evening before making the trip down South, will be interesting to see what they have left in the tank after a game and a long journey.

Bees legend Gazza is given ultimate honour

You may have noticed we have changed our X banner and profile picture in recognition of the outstanding contribution James Galazzi has made to the Bees organisation as this Sunday we see the Bees retire his number 10 shirt. Gazza is the player that Bees supporters loved to love and away supporters loved to hate. Contributing over 250 points to the team over the 12 years he was a full time member, and also earning a few more penalty minutes (well a lot more penalty minutes!), he played with his heart on his sleeve and was black, white and gold through and through. We expect to see plenty of Bees players from the past joining those of the present to congratulate him on this accolade. His #10 will be only the third number retired by the club. He is in good company with Matt Cote (#8) and Jamie Craiper (#20) being the only other players to be given this honour.
Congratulations Gazza from all of us at Bees IHC Fans, we're proud your name and number will go down in Bees history.

All that is left to say is safe travels to the Bees players and supporters heading to Romford on Friday and the same to the Sharks and their fans travelling on Sunday.  Come on you Bees!
