Weekend Teaser: Everyone Active Cup Weekend
Bees look to bring back the Everyone Active Cup to Slough
Bees friendly weekend with Wildcats shows promise
Last weekend ice hockey got back underway in the NIHL National with pre season games underway across the league. Ironically the biggest challenge was the weather, with temperatures over 30°c outside the ice was difficult to manage and proved that condensation on the plexiglass was not a condition that just happens in Basingstoke! Both rinks did a great job in ensuring both fixtures survived.
Bees faced the Swindon Wildcats away on Saturday before welcoming them to Slough on Sunday. Wildcats edged the Bees out in both games winning 3-1 In Swindon and 5-3 in Slough. It was a chance for both squads to test their lines following roster changes in the off season and to get a feel for the opposition with the league openers just a couple of weeks away. Both teams should have been very happy with their performances and will have some notes to take away from the matches to work on.

Attention now turns to winning the Everyone Active Cup
Last year the Bees were unable to retain the cup having been victorious in winning it the previous year in it's inaugural year. The annual event between the Raiders and Bees is now in it's third year and, as with every game between these teams, they will be fighting tooth and nail to be the victors.
Raiders were the surprise team for most last season finishing 6th in the league (not a shock for us as we predicted this in our Everyone Active Cup post this time last year - "however they will be hoping for an injury free season which could see them challenge the middle of the table") and losing in the play off final to Leeds Knights. Whilst keeping many from this roster they have had a complete change in their imports as Gomercic and Roberts make way for new signings Nick Leyer and Adam Laishram. Adam had a brief spell at Raiders last season where he provided injury cover where he amassed 9+10 in the 10 games he played! The other notable signing is ex Bison and Bee player Zack Milton. I'm sure many Bees fans hoped he may return to our team but that wasn't to be. Always a threat when on the ice, he's definitely someone to watch.

This will be a hard fought weekend, Bees are at home in the first leg (face off Saturday at 18.30) and they need a good lead as Raiders are a force to be reckoned with on their home ice.
