Weekend Teaser: More like last weekend please Bees!
More like last weekend please Bees!
A weekend that provided hope and promise and two points
After the coaching changes during the week and the fact that Dom couldn't actually coach from the bench we were all a bit uncertain about how the weekend would unfold.
On Saturday night Bees welcomed Peterborough Phantoms to Slough, a team who are in form at the moment and currently second in the league. Dan Rose was the first player to find the back of the net after a well placed pass by Stuart Mogg. Phantoms tied the game at 1-1 going into the first period break. The second period started with a goal that Matt Smital will want to bury and forget and then Phantoms extended their lead but Bees were to pull back one goal from Juha Lindgren which brought them within one of Phantoms heading into the third. Phantoms were to extend their lead to 4-2, Bees started to pile on the pressure and Scott Spearing's perseverence paid off as he won the puck back and passed to Will Stead who sniped the shot into the net. Bees were unable to find the game tying goal and Phantoms came out 4-3 on top. Both teams were evenly matched and there were plenty of positives to take from the evening. Matt Smital made some incredible saves to keep the Bees in the game and Bees were really unlucky not to come away with any points. The fans were buzzing as they left the arena, the result hadn't gome our way but we all saw a glimpse that things were getting better.
Sunday saw the Bees travel to Telford for their second visit this season. Most of us have already filed the previous visit under games we want to forget as Tigers came out 10-1 victors but this game was going to be a very different affair. Adam Goss was between the pipes and the Bees continued with their rejuvenated spirit we had seen 24 hours earlier taking a 2-1 lead into the first period with goals scored by Will Stead and Brendan Walkom. By half way through the second period the Tigers had managed to claw back the Bees lead and take the lead themselves. Bees Lewis English then beat the keeper to tie the game at 3-3 and this was to be the scoreline going into the third. Brendan Walkom scored his second goal of the evening to give the Bees the lead only to see Tiger's Silverthorn restore the tie. Silverthorn was then to go from hero to zero when he was awarded a 5 + match penalty for a check to the head (this was downgraded to a minor penalty during the week following a review). Ryan Webb was to capitalise on the powerplay and put Bees back in front. Despite pulling their goalie Tigers were unable to beat Goss and Bees banked two well earned points in their account.
Player of the Weekend Results
Congratulations to Will Stead on his player of the weekend with 41% of the vote, Dan Rose came second for the second week in a row with 29%. Who will be up for the vote this weekend?

Coming up - Bees have a day off before the Bison come to town
Bees face Basingstoke Bison on Sunday afternoon, face off has been moved to 4pm to avoid a clash with the England World Cup RO16 match. The last time the teams met was 29th October in Basingstoke, it was a close affair and Bees came out on top of a 3-4 scoreline. Bison have had their fair share of woes recently having made a good impression at the start of the season. Games between these teams are always passionate and tense and Sunday's will be no different. There are five Bison players who could cause Bees a threat, their imports Balaz and Lubwele and former Bees Milton, Norcliffe and Doughty. The rejuvenated Bees will be on a high going into Sunday afternoon's game, Bison will have their work cut out especially as they have a home game against the Tigers the evening before. Bees will be buzzing to get more points and if they play like last weekend they may well have the upper hand but there's one thing for sure fixtures between these teams are never predictable.
