Weekend Teaser: Injury struck Bees looking to build on huge Wildcats win

Injury struck Bees looking to build on huge Wildcats win

Last weekend definitely had its wow moments

Going into last weekend it seemed that Bees had an uphill battle and few of us thought that,  despite our faith in the team,  the combination of a growing injury list and playing two teams with huge depth we realistically had very little chance of coming away with any points. How wrong we were as Doug and the boys had completely different ideas. All the players gave 100%, Gossy stood firm in the net and team tactics were spot on allowing the team to leave Swindon with 2 points after a 3-2 win. Take a Iook at the highlights of the match if you get the chance, James Tipple's reaction to our third goal is priceless.

Sunday saw the Milton Keynes Lightning visit Slough. They were a strong team benefiiting from their full bench and despite them coming away with a 7-4 win Bees didn't make it easy for them. Going into the third period Bees were 4-2 down and a MKL goal in the first minute of the third seemed to put the game totally out of reach but two goals in 49 seconds from Juha and Brendan brought the Bees back to within one goal. Sadly, MKL were able to stretch their lead again with two further goals and Bees were unable to respond. Again some impressive performances from the Bees but the short bench was probably the deciding factor on the night.

Player of the Weekend Results

Congratulations to Brendan Walkom who has player of the weekend two weeks in a row, and is the early leader in our player of the weekend table with 4 wins. Brendan's entrance to the league has not been a quiet one!

Coming up the Bees meet the teams that sandwich us in the league table

Bees face the new teams to the league for the second time this weekend and are hoping to come away with all the points to move up the table. Saturday night sees the Bees take the long road trip to Hull. The Seahawks haven't had the best of luck since the start of the season. Short of players and unable to get clearance to bring in their imports, Emil Svec and Andrej Themar, Seahawks had been battling to put some points on the table. Their only win to date coming on October 29th courtesy of a penalty shootout win in Bristol when regulation and overtime could not split the teams. Good news was to follow after this win as Emil Svec had his visa application approved and arrived in the UK on Friday 4th November ready to play on 5th and 6th. Just over 23 minutes into his first game, Svec was given a match penalty for checking to the head which ruled him out of the team for the fixture on Nov 6th and our fixture this Saturday. The Bees have played Hull only once so far and came out 8 - 3 victors but to be fair to the Seahawks they made the Bees work hard for the win and never gave up once Bees were in control. This Saturday they will have their supporters behind them and injury woes for the Bees will make this a much closer match than last time.

Sunday night sees the Bees first home game against the Bristol Pitbulls. Like the Seahawks the Pitbulls didn't have the best of starts to the season but recent weeks have seen them pick up points including a 7-3 home win over Swindon and a 1-5 away win in Basingstoke. Bees have only played the Pitbulls once so far this season, an away fixture, where the game went to penalty shot and Pitbulls came out on top. Bees had to rally back from being 5-1 down in that game to force overtime and,  although the result wasn't what we wanted,  the passion and tenacity shown by the Bees was impressive. There will be some brotherly rivalry on Sunday as our recent signing Dan Bradley (who started the season for Pitbulls)  will be against his brother Ed who left the Bees in the summer to join Bristol on a two way deal with Cardiff Devils. We all know that Ed can be a threat with his blue line shots so hopefully Dan can steer those shots away from the goal.
