Weekend Teaser: Bees face surprise team Phantoms and struggling Wildcats
Bees face surprise team Phantoms and struggling Wildcats
Last weekend saw just one hard earned point for the Bees
The thing about ice hockey is that you can never predict with any certainty what will happen in any game and last weekend proved this to be the case. Bees made the long road trip to Hull hoping to bring two points back home with them. Bees took a two goal lead into the first period break with goals from Mogg and Galazzi and all was going to plan. Seahawks had a different plan and we saw them take a 3-2 lead at the end of the second period. Third period saw the Bees level through a Lindgren goal but Hull then found another gear and added two more goals to their tally. Goss was pulled to give the extra man but a clearance from the Hull defensive zone took a weird deflection off the plexi and the puck rolled into the Bees net. Final score was 6-3 to the Seahawks recording their first home win of the season.
Sunday saw the Bristol Pitbulls visit Slough for the first time this season. When both teams played eachother in Bristol last month the game was tied at the end of regulation and overtime could not split the sides and a penalty shootout was needed to decide the tie and this game was to end in exactly the same way. The first period ended goalless. Both teams were to find the back of the net in the second period with Bristol taking a 2-1 lead into the break. The third period saw the Bees bring the game level and Bristol took a timeout only to see the Bees score two quick goals and stretch the game out to 4-2. Pitbulls did not give up and found their way back into the match with the period three scoreline ending on 4-4. Overtime saw Bees with the best chances but neither team could score and penalty shots saw the Pitbulls take the win. Morgan Clarke-Pizzo won the man of the match for Bristol, this was well deserved as he was a threat all evening. Perhaps if Bees had managed to make his life a bit more difficult earlier on in the game the outcome would have been different.

Coming up the Bees meet second place Phantoms and wavering Wildcats
Bees travel to Peterborough on Saturday night to play the in form Phantoms, currently sitting second in the league having lost only three games all season. This is our second visit this season, having played Phantoms in our first game of the season back in September coming out on the wrong side of a 6-3 scoreline. A lot of Phantoms success can be attributed to the depth of players in their squad with Glenn Billing, Duncan Speirs, Lukas Sladkovsky, Corey McEwen and Ales Padelek all in form so far this season. Billing and McEwen provide many of the assists for the team so Bees defenders need to pay these guys special attention. Goalie Jordan Marr has a save percentage of .912% which means both Bees offence and defence are going to have to work hard for a result.
Sunday sees the Wildcats first visit to Slough this season as our previous home fixture was postponed due to lighting issues in the rink. Bees brought the two points home to Slough after meeting the Wildcats away two weeks ago and Wildcats performances have been a bit hit and miss lately so if Bees can take the most of their opportunities we could be in for an exciting evening. The Wildcats biggest offensive threats come from Tomasz Malasinski, Aaron Nell, Russell Cowley, Colby Tower and Chris Jones and you have to feel that Bees need to pepper the goals with netminders Renny Marr and Dean Skinns currently sitting on save percentages of .884% and .858% respectively. This game is definitely not one to miss!
