Bees desperate for win as three game weekend approaches
A disappointing weekend for the Bees
It's fair to say that many of us thought the visit to Romford to take on the Raiders on Saturday night was a good opportunity to put some more points on the board. We have had many close battles with them and both teams are currently placed in the bottom half of the league. Bees were down a few players due to injury but the fans were excited to see Vanya Antonov icing for the team. The Raiders won the first period 2-1 and the Bees won the second period by the same scoreline so it was all to play for in the third period. Raiders edged ahead just 8 seconds into the period, Aaron Connelly scoring his 200th point for the Raiders, and then they added a further two goals to their haul. From then on Bees started piling on the pressure and they brought the score back to 6-5. Gossy retired to the bench to allow the extra skater on the ice but Raiders found the empty net with 52 seconds until the end of the game and the win was theirs.
Sunday saw the Steeldogs visit Slough and the game was a complete contrast to the previous evening's. Steeldogs played a very defensive game and to be honest Bees defence was on top form too. The first goal of the evening came in the second period , a powerplay goal to the Steeldogs and they were to add another powerplay goal to their tally in the third. Bees brought one goal back, scored by Antonov icing for the Bees again, but with only 51 seconds left of the period there wasn't enough time to find the equalising goal. Bees played extremely well and deserved more from the game. The Steeldogs goalie, Zimozdra, and his defence stood firm all evening and kept the Bees at bay. It was an entertaining game with very few penalties and whilst disappointing as it was to lose you can't help but think more solid performances like that should yield results going forward.
Player of the Weekend Results
Congratulations to Vanya Antonov who wins his second player of the weekend with 64% of the vote. Josh Martin came in second with 14%.

Coming up the Bees have a three game weekend, Raiders at home followed by road trips to Bison and Tigers
Bees face Raiders on Friday night just six days after the close game in Romford. It's fair to say that this should be an equally close affair and hopefully the Bees' Day of the Dead shirts will be a good luck charm.
Bees head to Bison on Saturday evening, the team have so many ties and links with Basingstoke that it is always a hard fought affair. If you are going to support the team remember your thermals and scarves as it's so cold in there!
Sunday night sees the Bees head to Telford. Tigers came out convincing winners with a 4-8 scoreline when they visited Slough two weeks ago but with Coach Sheppard unlikely to repeat the tactics used that night we should see a closer result in a rink where Bees have had some good results in the past.
