Weekend Teaser: Retaining the Everyone Active Cup
Bees attempt to retain the Everyone Active Cup takes place this weekend across 2 legs
Bees win on home ice after unsuccessful comeback in Basingstoke on Saturday
Last weekend ice hockey got back underway in the NIHL National with pre season games as well as some friendly competitions getting underway across England.
Fans would have been concerned to see the Bees fall to a 4-0 deficit to the Basingstoke Bison on Saturday at the Silverdome, however an impressive effort from the Bees would bring the game back tied at 4 a piece with around 3 minutes to go, but unfortunately that effort would not get rewarded with the Bison getting a late winner to win 5-4.

Coming back from being 4 goals down is not easy in any sport, momentum is key and once we started scoring the goals kept flowing. At the end of the day, it is pre season and the most important thing is that the boys get a good skate and Doug can see what could work throughout the season. A huge positive to take is the ability to come back and not giving up after the poor start to the game.
In the return fixture on Sunday night, a reasonably calm and relaxing game took place to get us back into the action at Slough Ice Arena. Main positive from Sunday is that it was a good 60 minute performance which was an element that the Bees struggled with for the majority of last season.
Dominik Gabaj also showed that he still wants to be the stand out player of this Bees team with both of our goals in the 2-1 overtime victory. Our top line consisting of Dominik Gabaj, Brendan Walkom and Lewis English on Sunday shows that Doug is experimenting with both imports on the same line for now - and Lewis English who isn't currently signed by the Bees did not look out of place alongside both of the Bees imports.

Attention now turns to retaining the Everyone Active Cup
Last year the Bees were victorious in winning the inaugural Everyone Active Cup, which takes place between the Raiders and Bees.
Raiders were poor at most times throughout last season, resulting in them finishing bottom of the NIHL National League and having to sit out the playoffs. Their team hasn't changed a huge amount since last season, however they will be hoping for an injury free season which could see them challenge the middle of the table.

It will be the first time J.J. Pitchley returns to the Sapphire Ice and Leisure Centre after leaving the Raiders over the summer to join the Bees roster. Furthermore, former Bee Mikey Power made the transition to Romford from MK to strenghen the Raiders lineup. Mikey was part of the Bees side during the first half of last season and has started off his pre season well with a hat-trick in Peterborough on Saturday before two periods had concluded.
