Bees look to continue winning streak Bees deliver a four point opening weekend  Saturday evening saw the Phantoms visit Slough for the Bees first game of the regular league season. Arriving after a narrow loss the previous evening, Phantoms were looking for their first points of the campaign.  Bees league opener on home ice against Phantoms Everyone Active Shield stays in Romford for another year  Raiders have retained the Everyone Active shield as they proved the better team over the two games last weekend. Whilst classed by many as a friendly competition, it was clear that both teams wanted to get their hands on the trophy and were not holding back. On Saturday Raiders made the trip to Slough. A goalless first period saw plenty of chances for both teams with Windebank in goal for Raiders and Preece between the pipes for Bees managing to deny all chances. It didn't take very long into the second period for Raiders to get their first goal on the scoreboard, Nick Leyer scored after just 19 seconds to be precise. They were to double their lead at 26.40 with a goal from Jacob Ranson. Not to be outdone by their rivals, Bees were to tie the period with goals from Adam Rosbottom and Dominik Gabaj. With no more goals in the third period it was all to play for in Romf...

Ironically the biggest challenge was the weather, with temperatures over 30°c outside the ice was difficult to manage and proved that condensation on the plexiglass was not a condition that just happens in Basingstoke! Both rinks did a great job in ensuring both fixtures survived. Bees faced the Swindon Wildcats away on Saturday before welcoming them to Slough on Sunday. Wildcats edged the Bees out in both games winning 3-1 In Swindon and 5-3 in Slough. It was a chance for both squads to test their lines following roster changes in the off season and to get a feel for the opposition with the league openers just a couple of weeks away.  Both teams should have been very happy with their performances and will have some notes to take away from the matches to work...
