Weekend Teaser: Two must win games this weekend

Two must win games this weekend

Well last weekend didn't go to plan

Bees were the club to benefit from a rest day last weekend before welcoming the Basingstoke Bison to Slough. Bison had played Telford Tigers the previous night and had convincingly beaten them by 6 goals to 3. There we were hoping the Bees fresh legs would provide a tough game for Bison  but that wasn't to be the case as they were still flying high after the euphoria of the previous nights win. Everything Bison threw at the Bees seemed to work for the visiting team and they had already put three goals on the scoreboard by the end of the first period with Bees without reply. An early goal for Bison in the second period saw Matt Smital make way for Gossy but Bison who were on fire managed to get one past Adam before the end of the period which ended 0-5. Bison were to add 2 more goals in the third period before Bees' Will Stead finally scored a powerplay goal. Then the penalty boxes got very busy. At 52.30 it all kicked off, Lawday in goal for Bison was guilty of a slash which James Galazzi took exception to and decided to have words, metaphorically speaking, with Lawday. Further altercations were happening at the same time and with six players being awarded 5 minute fighting penalties and Lawday given a 2 minute slashing penalty (on top of his 5 minute fighting penalty) and an early exit from the game Bees were on the powerplay but had no success on this or a subsequent powerplay opportunity so Bison returned home with a 7-1 win. Bison were a much improved team from the one we won against at the end of October away, they were able to thwart much of the Bees opportunities. It took until the third period for Bees to find their way into the game and despite all their efforts it wasn't to be their night.

Coming up - Pitbulls and Seahawks in the same weekend, must win games for Bees to close the gap in the league

Bees face Bristol Pitbulls on Saturday evening, face off has been moved to 4pm to avoid a clash with the England World Cup RO16 match. The last time the teams met was 29th October in Basingstoke, it was a close affair and Bees came out on top of a 3-4 scoreline. Bison have had their fair share of woes recently having made a good impression at the start of the season. Games between these teams are always passionate and tense and Sunday's will be no different. There are five Bison players who could cause Bees a threat, their imports Balaz and Lubwele and former Bees Milton, Norcliffe and Doughty. The rejuvenated Bees will be on a high going into Sunday afternoon's game, Bison will have their work cut out  especially as they have a home game against the Tigers the evening before. Bees will be buzzing to get more points and if they play like last weekend they may well have the upper hand but there's one thing for sure fixtures between these teams are never predictable.
