Weekend Teaser: Leeds Double

Image
Challenging weekend ahead as the Bees face double header with the league leaders So close to earning points in Milton Keynes  Bees first game of the weekend saw them heading around the M25 and up the M1 to Milton Keynes. This was always going to be a difficult match, Lightning were unbeaten in the first weekend of the season and have great depth in their roster.  Bees were running a much shorter bench than Lightning but were boosted by the return of James Galazzi.  Keeping Liam Stewart at bay would be a major challenge for the Bees defence particularly as he has had an amazing start to the season with hat tricks in both games of the first weekend. Turns out Stewart's great form was to continue as he scored in the first minute of the first period, a well worked goal that could have knocked the Bees confidence but it didn't faze them and they were to draw level in the final minute of the period with a superb goal from Dom Gabaj assisted by JJ Pitchley. Second p...

Weekend Teaser: Tough weekend ahead as the Bees face two teams with perfect first weekends

Tough weekend ahead as the Bees face two teams with perfect first weekends Two points are on the board after the first weekend of action The opening game of the season saw a Friday night clash with the Phantoms. Powerplay and penalty killing were going to be the deciding factors as there were only three even-handed goals out of the nine goals scored. Phantoms made the most of the extra man opportunities with four of their goals coming on the powerplay, but this was a closer game than the score suggests. A 2-minute penalty call on Dom Gabaj at 48.10 was ironically going to provide Bees their best chance of the night to level the game. Phantoms scored as Dom sat in the box which should have been enough for them, but Joe Gretton had other ideas and thought an unprovoked attack on Dom was required. This resulted in Bees being gifted a 7-minute powerplay and an early exit for Gretton. Despite their best efforts Bees were unable to break through the Phantoms defence and there were no mo...

Weekend Teaser: Season gets underway

Season gets underway on Friday in Peterborough Bees fall short in attempt to retain everyone active cup The Bees have failed to retain the everyone active cup, which will spend the next season in Romford. On Saturday, a dominant first period from the Bees took them to a 2-0 lead over their London rivals, however 4 unanswered goals put the Raiders in a dominant position in their away leg, but a late goal from Brendan Walkom would keep it to a one goal game going into the second leg. Sunday was where things started to unfold for the Bees, with the Raiders entering the ice with the most belief in the first period and going on to score 5 goals  and almost instantly securing that the Everyone Active Cup would not spend another season in Slough. It was a ruthless first 20 minutes which saw every half chance turn into a goal. Penalty trouble came in the second and third periods for the Bees, with both Josh Martin and Stuart Mogg being sent to the changing rooms, and we'll hav...

Weekend Teaser: Retaining the Everyone Active Cup

Bees attempt to retain the Everyone Active Cup takes place this weekend across 2 legs Bees win on home ice after unsuccessful comeback in Basingstoke on Saturday Last weekend ice hockey got back underway in the NIHL National with pre season games as well as some friendly competitions getting underway across England. Fans would have been concerned to see the Bees fall to a 4-0  deficit to the Basingstoke Bison on Saturday at the Silverdome, however an impressive effort from the Bees would bring the game back tied at 4 a piece with around 3 minutes to go, but unfortunately that effort would not get rewarded with the Bison getting a late winner to win 5-4 . Coming back from being 4 goals down is not easy in any sport, momentum is key and once we started scoring the goals kept flowing. At the end of the day, it is pre season and the most important thing is that the boys get a good skate and Doug can see what could work throughout the season. A huge positive to take is the ...

Pre-season begins with challenge against local rivals Basingstoke Bison Finally, September is here which means hockey season is just around the corner! We start the season against a new look Basingstoke Bison side whose top scorers last season have departed to Bristol, one of the latest additions to the NIHL National line-up. The upcoming weekend will give us our first insight into how much the Bison roster is going to struggle with the departure of these two experienced pointscorers. However, Basingstoke does have new imports coming into the spotlight - and it is hard to assess until the season gets underway how the duo will perform in England. Here are the players head coach Ashley Tait will have to select from across the weekend Two players on the list are ex Bees players Zach Milton and Aidan Doughty who both had impressive seasons last season finishing 3rd and 4th respectively in the Bison points rankings. Furthermore Bees defender Josh Kelly made the move to Basingstoke over the ...
