New Signing: Dan Rose

We take a look into Dan Rose, the Bees first fresh signing ahead of next season.

After signing the foundations of the team, Doug Sheppard has announced the newest player to skate for the Bees next season. At the age of 30 and entering his 15th season, forward Dan Rose isn't new to the game and brings plenty of experience to the Bees having spent the last 3 seasons as Captain for the Slough Jets.

What does he bring to this Bees side?

A major issue for the Bees early on in last season was finding consistent goal scorers across all the lines resulting in an increased work load on the Bees top scorers including Dominik Gabaj and Juha Lindgren. A big benefit to the Bees is that Dan Rose can find the back of the net, averaging 1.4 points per game across the regular season with the Slough Jets in the last 3 seasons. The possibility of him fitting in lower down the order on line 2 or 3 would allow more scoring opportunities across the team and take pressure off the top line who scored their fair share of goals last season.

Leadership

Dan comes with a wealth of experience, a career spanning 15 years so far with the last 3 seasons wearing the C. His ability to
take control and make the right decisions in pressure situations that occur across the length of a season is an asset to the team. Looking forward, we would expect some of our more experienced Bees players to hang up their skates over the next couple of seasons, Dan has the credentials to fill the gaps this would leave as we are one of the youngest teams in the league. Dan would be on the table to become an Alternate Captain in the future and potentially make game winning decisions within the Bees leadership team.

Bees relationship with the Slough Jets

Across last season the Bees were able to call up a few players from the Slough Jets in order to boost the team when we were shortbenched as well as give some future Bees players some ice time to trial national level hockey. Adam Rosbottom was one of the Slough Jet players that impressed - in return signing for the Bees in January and would play a huge part in the Bees campaign to make the playoffs, and once in the playoffs picking up 3+2. Signing the Jets captain, and their 2nd highest point scorer, shows the strong relationship between the two organisations, allowing players down in South 1 to have a target to aim for in playing for the Bees.

There are a couple of players at the top end of that Slough Jets roster that must be of interest to Doug this summer. Defenceman Jacob White-sey picked up 4 appearances with the Bees last season, and even though he did not collect a point, impressed Coach Sheppard.

There is still a lot of signing news to come this off season, but the signing of Dan Rose shows us the Bees may be able to put pen to paper with a couple more of the Slough Jets players, 2-way contracts could be on the table?

Summary

As a whole, the signing of Dan Rose seems to be a great one for a Bees fan as he brings plenty to the Bees from goal scoring to leadership. If he can make his mark in the National League, he could become an added threat to this Bees roster for the upcoming season - which is very exciting.
